On October 29, the research team led by Prof. Liu Bin of College of Food Science published an article entitled “Cathepsin B inhibitors block multiple radiation-induced side effects in C. elegans”in Cell Research (IF=17.848). This research reveals that “as novel CTSB and CPR-4 protease inhibitors, apigenin, baicalein, and tannic acid (the most abundant phenolic compounds found in fruits and vegetables) can suppress several different side effects in a C. elegans radiation model mimicking radiotherapy in humans”.

The first author of this essay is Dr. Zheng Lingjun of College of Food Science, FAFU. The co-corresponding authors include Prof. Liu Bin (College of Food Science, FAFU) and Prof. Xue Ding of University of Colorado Boulder. Wu Xiaoqi, a PhD student from College of Food Science at FAFU, and Li Shanshan from School of Life Sciences of Tsinghua University took part in this research.
